Discipline Week 5

“Discipline Equals Freedom”

 Jocko Willink

Discipline is critical to maintain a healthy thriving lifestyle, so I added one more week. As I spent this month exploring discipline and how people felt about it, and how they owned it, I read the above quote. John Gretton "Jocko" Willink Jr. is an American author, podcaster, and retired US Navy officer who served as a Navy Seal. He believes discipline is a mindset of self-imposed control. This mindset covers every aspect of your life; your exercise, your eating, your work, your ability to respond instead of react, your Do it attitude instead of procrastination, your ability to understand stress and high intensity situations and not to allow them to impede you. You have the power to take full responsibility for what happens in your life, and your reaction to it. This also means sometimes we need to let go of those things that inhibit our progress, events, people, technology. That is if you want to enjoy more freedom in your life and not be a prisoner to distraction.

One of the reasons people lack discipline is they get lost in the distractions of life and let’s face it there are many, bombarding us daily. Even the simple practice of sitting still for two minutes, starting that meditation practice can put you on the path to discipline. Try it right now, just get quiet, sit still, focus on your breath. Maybe try alternate nostril breathing which guides the mind to find calm.

How to Practice Alternate Nostril Breathing

Sit comfortably with a straight spine and relaxed shoulders.

Place your right hand on your nose.

Close the right nostril with your thumb and inhale slowly and deeply through the left nostril.

Close the left nostril with your ring and little fingers.

Open the right nostril and exhale through it.

Inhale through the right nostril.

Close the right nostril with your thumb.

Open the left nostril and exhale.

Repeat this process. =

Then ask yourself the question, which do you choose, prisoner or freedom? .
