Resilience Week 4
“Grief and resilience live together”
Michelle Obama
Michele Obama’s quote is a powerful message on resilience, she felt we needed to embrace setbacks as part of growth. She also said, “Failure is an important part of your growth and developing resilience. Don't be afraid to fail.” Her stance is even more meaningful given her success. She is open about her flaws and challenges and then offers the lessons she’s discovered in her book, “Becoming”. She is not a scientist, expert or physician. She came from humble beginnings and persevered with hard work to reach her dreams.
I included this quote in this month’s resilience focus because all of us are faced with something devastating in our lives, some more than others. All of us know those times that we may think, how will I get through this? By allowing ourselves to accept our failure or disappointment, letting it live beside us, instead of consuming us, we allow for the growth to begin, and change.
The more we practice the foundations of mindfulness, daily acceptance and gratitude for what we have, we learn this latest challenge is part of life. We understand that we can allow this to be part of us or fight against it. The practice of why is this happening for me, not to me, becomes paramount.
