Positive Psychology Week 2

The greatness of a man is not how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

-Bob Marley

As I researched quotes regarding Positive Psychology, this one by Bob Marley was exactly what I was seeking. This week the focus is on people who live life with this attitude, practice gratitude, and are willing to change the way they think.

Immediately I think of my dear friend and former colleague who is now faced with cancer. Prior to her diagnosis she embraced all aspects of mindfulness, informal and formal, meditation, breath work and changing her inner self. She spoke about that transformation, and how she wished she had done it earlier in her life, as it could have helped her through difficult times. What seems to happen in life is that change is presented to us at the time when we are ready. Now faced with cancer, she is a role model for the practices that she has embraced. I am amazed at her mental strength as she faces this diagnosis, and the repercussions of surgery, such as relearning to walk. Yet, she maintains her humor, her no nonsense acceptance of what is, and her love for her home, her garden, her dog, her family and friends. She has such wisdom and authentic character that even thinking about her, I feel motivated. She is living Marley’s quote, an inspiration to all who know her, and now to anyone who reads this. Living proof that how we think determines how we live.

Who inspires you with their supportive outlook of living life fully? Maybe it’s someone who lives gratefully, or who makes you feel accepted, or stays calm under pressure. This week start to notice the people in your life, their energy, and how they make you feel. Look for those like my friend for positive incentive in your own life.
