Impermanence Week 2
“People don't realize that now is all there ever is; there is no past or future except as memory or anticipation in your mind.”
-Eckhart Tolle
In The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle expands the idea expressed in his famous quote above. The NOW is all we have, yet many of us keep thinking the future will be better, not acknowledging what we have right now, and feeling gratitude for it. His belief is that the way to peace is to stop resisting what is and accepting the impermanent nature of all things and conditions. This does not mean we stop planning our future, it means we become more able to adapt to the many changes that occur along the way.
He also has said, “In today's rush we all think too much, seek too much, want too much and forget about the joy of just being.” Focusing on the present, and what we have right now.
Today, try this to find the present moment.. With the right pointer finger, trace up and down each finger on the left hand. As you do this, breathe in for 5 counts and exhale through the nose for 5 counts. As you go through your day, do this technique to be in the NOW.
