Discipline Week 3

“There are no Miracles, only Discipline.”

 Unknown

When I was a physical education and health teacher, coaching gymnastics and distance running, I had this quote on the bulletin board over my desk. I found it in a cosmetics ad in a magazine, back in the early 80’s. It represented everything I wanted the girls on my team or in my classes to aspire to, and myself to role model. Girls would come speak to me at my desk, and I would see them look up at the sign. I noticed in them that flicker of recognition, “I could work harder”. Always the first step to change, self-awareness. Ask yourself the question, am I working and acting towards my goals, or am I just thinking and talking about it.

As for those high school girls, whether it was being able to walk across the high beam in class or do a back handspring on it in a meet, it was going to take practice, consistency, and hard work each day in the gym. Those that accepted that fact and the discipline, achieved the goal. What I realized was that those who came to love the process of practice, not just the outcome, were the most successful.

This week apply this lesson to your own life. Whether it’s going for a walk, or cooking a healthy meal, gardening, or cleaning your space, or completing an assignment.  be present. Stop wishing you were doing something else. Fall in love with the practice of doing and the outcome goal will happen. Affirmation: I am disciplined.
