“Cancers of the Mind: Comparing, Complaining, Criticizing.”-Week 4
― Jay Shetty, Think Like a Monk: Train Your Mind for Peace and Purpose Every Day
“Nobody makes the mess we do—so start there. Don't blame a cluttered mind on anyone but the one in the mirror.”
-Jay Shetty
If it is unhealthy for us to complain, criticize, and compare then what should we be doing? Focusing on our own actions, thoughts and plans. This shift starts with taking a step back from our emotional reactions. Of course, we always acknowledge our feelings and emotions, but do we need to get lost in them? No. The 90 second rule states it takes 90 seconds for an emotion to flow through your body. After that you are reactivating it! The next time someone or something presses an emotional reaction button, PAUSE. Be a spectator to yourself, say to yourself, here you again, but not this time. This time you will allow this “emotional reaction" to pass through me. What have you got to lose? Stress!
As with any change the key is practice, do not give up, give yourself the gift of grace and strength. Most worthwhile things we have achieved came with hard work and follow through. Mindset change works the same way!
