Self-Awareness Week 4
"If not Now, then when?" is most familiar to English speakers as a maxim attributed to the Jewish sage Hillel.
With our limited time to live, the key question is when we will realize what truly matters. One step forward now that we have been examining our awareness, is to start recognizing our small wins with congratulations. After it was pointed out to me in a Positive Intelligence course, I realized that I hadn't been doing this. I started mentally documenting and appreciating my completion of everyday activities such as workouts, blog writing, a meaningful conversation or even meal preparation. I looked at my daily routines as bright spots in my day. Eckart Tolle, author of The Power of Now, would say it goes beyond this. When we practice present moment awareness we are not overthinking about the past or the future. When we are in the moment, we notice simple joys: the blue sky, a child's joyful smile, or a dog's warm greeting. By honoring the small things, we are expressing genuine gratitude for our life. We become open to more possibilities because our personal awareness is heightened.
Try beginning this practice by celebrating yourself for all that you do, clearly appreciating your dedication to tasks, as you complete them. Then start to notice how you are becoming more present. Step 2 involves honoring the small aspects of daily life that contribute significantly to overall fulfillment, feeling gratitude.
