Giving Grace- Week 3

“My son, everything works out in the end. If it didn’t, it’s because it hasn’t come to an end yet.”

Fernando Sabino, Brazilian writer quoting his father’s words to him.

Domingos Sabino offers his son to live in grace as Fernando struggles with a mental affliction. I love this quote, it has led me to let go of what I cannot control, on more than one occasion. It involves releasing resistance and finding a sense of peace with what is. Taking small steps early with small issues makes it easier to handle bigger problems later. It takes consistent practice, because for some of us giving grace to ourselves is the hardest task of all. We are so used to the constant judging; it is our default mode.

This week try doing a ten second exercise when you begin to judge yourself. Make a fist, then open your hand. As you do this 3-5 times, watch your hand in the fist and again as it opens. Note the small differences in your hand. Then say something kind to yourself, maybe just,

You got this, it’s not over yet.
